Stockwell Street

This picture was found in a pile of photocopied shots in West Greenwich library.  You can see the intersection with Burney Street on the left with the two original buildings on either side of Burney Street. Both these buildings have now gone. I think these buildings were knocked down in the 1960s.  This shot looks like it was taken in the 1920s by the looks of the two cars. The second shot was taken in 1937. You can see the Greenwich Hippodrome Picture Palace where the Theatre now is. In 1969 this building was rebuilt with a modern entrance to become Greenwich Theatre.

The next shots show the Greenwich Park Station building on Stockwell Street. (Long thin building in the middle of the first two shots). This was demolished in 1970.  The line has been filled in here and is being used as a timber yard. You can just make out the timber in both the first two shots.   The 4th shot was taken c1965. You can clearly see the backs of the old buildings on Greenwich High Road (where Cafe Rouge and the cinema are now).
This next shot shows an early picture of John Humphrey house on Stockwell Street. Parkway Station has gone so it must have been taken post 1970.
