Actually, that building still stands. I'm not sure what it's original purpose was, but I think it holds offices of the National Maritime Museum now. Opposite was an old chapel house, now demolished to make way for the new residential development, the corner of which is just visible in the far right of the picture.
This building was previously owned by AMOCO oil company as offices and before that my mother called it The Vigsol. She lived next door to it so should know. The building opposite it was used by the Blind School for a time where they used to make wicker baskets etc.
